What is an Open Tender:

The tenders published as an open tender category can be participated by anyone. If any supplier/company is finding their self eligible after reading the tender document then he can participate in such tenders. There is no obligation or restriction for anyone is open tenders. All you need to check is your eligibility.

What is a Limited Tender:

The limited tenders are not the same as the open tenders. As the name indicates then only a few companies can participate in such tender. The tender inviting authority selects the name of the company’s (bidders) at the time of publishing the tender. Only those bidders who are selected/invited by the department can participate in such tenders.

Now the question arises as to why dept is publishing the tenders for few companies not for all. Is it not favoritism?

We will not go into more detail at this point regarding why dept. is inviting few companies and restricting the competition. But we will put a little light on this question to satisfy your mind.

There is various govt organization who purchase the similar items (goods/services/work) regularly or periodically. The time taken for finalized an open tender is longer than the limited one.

The tender inviting authority first do the impalement with few companies so that whenever the item is required the tender will be published for the only impaneled bidder and it will be finalized soon.

This was the first possibility there are other possibilities as well. Like,

TIA knows the name of the company only they are the supplier of the required product.

The required item is in urgent need.

The process of the eligibility check is very lengthy for some specific work or service and it is not always possible for some type of good or item.

To summarize this query the limited tender inquiry is not affected by any favoritism. However various regulations are taken into practice while publishing the limited tenders.

What is a Closed Limited Tender:

Another type of tender is closed limited tender, this also comes under the limited tender category. But the difference between limited tender and closed limited tender is the tender documents can be seen by anyone for the limited tender even they are selected /invited to participate in the tender or not. In case of closed limited tender only invited bidders can download and see the document. The closed limited tenders the purchase requirement related to the National security or for the confidential requirements.

What is a Single Tender:

As the tender type name itself suggests that tender is published for a single company only. The single tender is published for direct purchase or we can say for proprietary articles.

What is Global Tender:

The Global Tenders and Open Tenders are the same things. Anyone can participate in this tender. The term global is used to emphasize that foreign companies are also welcomed to participate in such tenders. Though the open tenders can also be participated by the foreign bidders.
